"Sukra sonita garbhasayastham atma prakrti vikara samurcitam garbham iti uchyate" Su.S.
The foetus (Garbha) is the union of the sukra (sperm/male gamete), the sonita (ovum/female gamete) and the atma or cetana (soul/spirit/ultimate awareness). The garbha also possesses eight elements called the prakrtis & sixteen elements called the vikaras which are also the building blocks of life. So, garbha is the fine coalescence of the sukra, the sonita, the atma, the prakrtis and the vikaras.
In ayurvedic texts conception is compared to a sprouting of seed. Proper season, the right kind of soil, with good nourishment, a healthy seed grows into a healthy plant. These factors are important for a healthy conception too.
